Shakespeare Monologue Finals

ESU Shakespeare Monologue Contest Finals
Friday, January 20, at 9:50 a.m.

The school finals for the 2012 Shakespeare Monologue Contest, sponsored by the English-Speaking Union, will be held during Morning Meeting tomorrow, in the Chapel.  The ten finalists from last week's preliminary round will present their monologues, having workshopped them with a professional actor from the Great Lakes Theater Festival, with the winner advancing to the regional finals in Cleveland.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.

UPDATE 1.23.12: The winners were announced today during Morning Meeting. 

Julia Ferguson was the winner, performing Lady Macbeth's second act monologue from "Macbeth." She received a copy of the Oxford Complete Works of Shakespeare, and will represent WRA at the regional finals in Cleveland on February 25. 

Michael Nichols was the runner-up, performing the role of Angelo from "Measure for Measure." He won a copy of "The Tempest," and will serve as the alternate in the event that the winner is unable to compete.

Congratulations to Julia and Michael for their achievement, and to all the competitors for a job well done.
